Marine Protection Rules Part 141: Ship Design, Construction, Equipment and Operation – noxious liquid substances in bulk

Part 141 incorporates the construction, equipment and operational standards for ships certified to carry noxious liquid substances in bulk found in the International Maritime Organisation's International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk.

Part 141 gives effect to Regulations 11 and 12 of Annex II of MARPOL 73/78.

Part 141 of the marine protection rules applies to:

• New Zealand ships, warships and other ships of the New Zealand Defence Force
  
  
• ships carrying chemical cargoes in bulk
  
  
• foreign ships carrying bulk chemical cargoes operating in areas of the sea under New Zealand's jurisdiction.

History of Part 141

Part 141 came into force on 20 August 1998.

This part was amended by Marine Protection Amendments Rules – Control of Pollution by Noxious Liquid Substance in Bulk, MARPOL Revised Annex II (Parts 100, 10B, 103, 140, 141, 142A, 142B and 143) in 2008.

This part was most recently amended by Marine Protection Various Amendments 2010, in 2010.
